Project Background

Roadway Farms (Pty) Ltd is a 100% Black-owned family business with 51% female ownership with over 5 years of farming experience in Albert Falls under the uMshwathi Local Municipality.

Roadway Farms is operating on privately owned land with a 30-year rental agreement in place with the landlord (Prakash Satyapal); operations cover a 14-hectare open field growing seasonal vegetables. The farm is easily accessible on the R33, about a 15-minute drive outside Pietermaritzburg.

The farm is water secure—it sits adjacent to the Umgeni River and has the associated water rights to draw water for irrigating our crops.

The business is currently employing 22 permanent staff, with a potential to increase even more as the ADA funding assists with the expansion of production.
