Cowboy Abattoir

Project Name: Umshini wami CC trading as Cowboy Abattoir.
Project Location: No.15149 Lufafa Road, Creighton, Ixopo.

Project Background

Cowboys Abattoir began through humble beginnings in 2006. They had built a very small rural abattoir on a leased land in Boston. Through hard work and dedication, the business kept growing. When the lease agreement expired, they begun the search for new premises and subsequently purchased a small holding in Ixopo. Unfortunately, they did not have funds to commence the construction of the abattoir with a processing plant (deboning area). Thereafter they approached ADA for assistance. Cowboy abattoir is one of the first projects that were assisted by the ADA organisation and are still successfully sustainable to date.

ADA Intervention:

Construction of the abattoir and processing facility with deboning area and they have been in operation since 2013 to date.
Marketing courses which have come in handy in terms of marketing skills as the abattoir currently supplies to a client in Johannesburg, one in Cape Town, two in Durban and 12 Spar Supermarkets.

Impact of ADA interventions:

Expansion of Job creation.
The project further managed to pay back the loan they took for operating the business prior to the ADA intervention.
On a yearly basis the project is now able to donate +/- 2000kg of beef and about 160 blankets to the surrounding community.
