Mr Thembinkosi Willies Mchunu

Mr Willies Mchunu was announced in 2020 by the former MEC for KwaZulu-Natal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs Bongiwe Sithole-Moloi as chairperson of the Agribusiness Development Agency Board. Mr Mchunu possesses a wealth of knowledge and experience in the fields of social cohesion, labour relations and governance-related issues. After the first democratic elections in 1994, he was appointed as Deputy Speaker of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, a position he held until his appointment as Speaker in 2004.

His passion for a functional and growing local government system is what earned him a seat on the Executive Council. Mr Mchunu was, in 2009, invited to become the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs and in the same year, he was appointed MEC for Transport, Community Safety, and Liaison, where he spearheaded the infrastructure revolution, which involved the construction of an integrated and reliable transport network across the province. He was appointed to the province’s top job in 2016 as the Premier where he led various socioeconomic development programmes to improve the quality of life of all those who live in KZN. In his recent appointment as ADA board chairperson, together with other members and management, Mr Mchunu is committed to fostering a diverse, prosperous and sustainable agribusiness sector in KwaZulu-Natal.
