Mr. MJ Mfusi

Mr. MJ Mfusi is a highly accomplished and passionate agricultural senior executive with more than 33 years of progressive leadership experience across the public sector, spanning national, provincial, and local government and state entities. His career reflects a deep commitment to agricultural development, rural transformation, and strategic organisational leadership.

Before his appointment as CEO of the Agribusiness Development Agency (ADA), Mr. Mfusi served extensively in senior executive roles, including Acting Head of Department (HOD) for the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD). He also served as Deputy Director-General: Rural Development, where he championed integrated rural development models, multi-stakeholder partnerships, and the implementation of sustainable agricultural systems. Additionally, in naming a few related positions, Mr. Mfusi held the role of Acting HOD for the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA), strengthening intergovernmental coordination, economic development alignment, and strategic policy implementation.

Prior to his formal appointment as ADA CEO, he had already been leading the agency in an acting CEO capacity, following his secondment from the KZN Farmer Enterprise, where he also acted as CEO. Mr. Mfusi’s academic background is as extensive as his professional one. He holds multiple qualifications in management services, project management, and programme management, and a master’s degree in sustainable agriculture, equipping him with the strategic, technical, and managerial expertise required to advance modern agribusiness and rural development.

With a proven track record in executive decision-making, large-scale programme management, and agricultural sector development, Mr. Mfusi brings visionary leadership to ADA.
